The "Purpose" of Nature

We, as a class, probably have a lot of different views about what the natural world is meant to do for us and what it is meant to be for our planet.  For instance, some people feel that everything in nature is at humans' disposal and we should take whatever we want, however we want.  Others feel that nature is to be cherished and protected, as it contains many life forms.  There are so many points of view.

What is yours?  You may find that your point of view is influenced by political, religious, or cultural beliefs and practices, and that is fine.  Your comment should clearly communicate your beliefs and why you believe them.  Always proofread, spellcheck, and read over your post aloud with a friend to make sure it makes sense.  I will write my post below so you can see an example, and so I can be a part of this discussion with you.

As a scientist, I recognize the interconnectedness of all things on earth, and how changing one thing often sets off a domino effect of change in other things.  I believe we need to carefully consider and study what those changes will be before we start something negative that we can't stop.  As a consumer, I understand that we can't use up all our natural resources because once some of them are gone, they are gone for good.  I believe that we need to learn how to live in moderation to protect those resources.  As a Christian, I see the hand of God in everything in the natural world.  I believe that I have a responsibility to respect and care for His creation.  As a conservationist, I realize that the environment has value beyond money and that no amount of money can ever recreate what we humans destroy.  I believe that we need to protect the environment for its future use and for its inherent value to life on earth.

  1. I personally believe that everything in nature should be cherished and used wisely. The reason I say this is because we have things in nature that just can not be replaced and if we use them however we want we will eventually run out of them. I think these things in nature should be cherished because we never know what these things in nature could hold in store for use later. I think we should just watch how we use things in nature because we do not know how long we have them for.

  2. i think that nature is truly a wonderful thing and should be cherished because it has so many wonderful things about like the oceans, trees, forest and the animals but we take advantage of nature by cutting down the forest and polluting the oceans and the air

  3. I feel as though nature should be cherished. I say this because with so many disasters going on today such as pollution , global warming, it's slowly but surely destroying the earth on which we live on and if this continues to happen we wont have an earth to live on therefore everyone will die. Another huge part of our nature are tress and plants which people are also destroying and cutting down. We need trees to live because trees give off oxygen which is needed for us to breathe. Nature should not be taken for granted but sadly it is which is why we have the problems we do today.

  4. When it comes to nature I see myself as a hypocrite. I know it is good to reduce my footprint, and when it is of benefit to me I find time to recycle, conserve water, and help pick up trash off the street. Those moments when I am environmentally conscious normally stem from a a rise in attention by the media. But, aside from that I see myself as environmentally inconsistent. From a young age I came up hunting with my uncle, and from there I gained a true respect for the wild. From sitting in the wilderness for hours on end quietly waiting for my prey I learned that without nature providing a food chian I couldnt survive. Another lesson I learned from my uncle is to go with a more natural diet. I have recently tried to avoid processed foods and take on a more "kosher," lifestyle.

  5. I believe nature is there for our use but not for us to take advantage of and destroy just for the sake of it. We should use what we need but even so be aware of how much we use otherwise sooner or later we will run out of nature and have nothing to depend on. It is our job as humans to take care of what we use and know when to stop and give something time to recover. I feel that if we over use nature then it won't come back and if it does it won't be what it use to be. Nature isn't just for its resources but also for the presence it gives us on earth, without nature we would be a boring world with no natural beauty. Nature is just as valuable as any human life and should be treated as such.

  6. To me, nature is very wonderful and without it the world would be so boring. Without the sources of trees, plants, and forest, animals will decreasing and probably die because many animals live off of it. As humans, we need to make sure that nature is at the state of art because it reflects our world. But slowly harming our nature is pollution, global warming, and etc. So the best thing to do is stop harming and take care of it. But nature is the phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the earth, as opposed to humans or human creations.

  8. Although I'm not the most eco-friendly person, I do think that nature should be preserved and shouldn't be hurt for selfish reasons. Things like greed and disregarding the importance of nature will eventually come back to haunt humans. Nature can/should be used for needs, not wants. But, I also believe it's resources are needed by humans and some things are unavoidable. It is possible to take our needed resources in one hand and help keep nature healthy with the other. Examples are cleaning trash or cutting back on specific things so we are doing the smallest amount of damage possible. It is everyone's job, whatever religious background or lifestyle, to take care of our community. I'm not saying the problems will stop completely, but some can be solved to help nature in some way.

  9. My view on this situation would be that nature is to be cherished and protected just as the question states. I believe this because there are multiple non-renewable resources from nature that we can end up not protecting and end up not being able to use it anymore. Without many of our non-renewable resources that nature gives us, we wont be able to advance on many things we need in our every day life. It would have a big effect on human beings, loosing a natural source. Nature helps us also for example trees create oxygen that we can breath in, and if we don't protect them we will end up in trouble. We should also protect something that was given to us by God, to benefit ourselves by those natural things and not God getting nothing out of our sources.

  10. When it comes to think about nature I didn’t really think about it a lot. When I saw this I thought about it a lot I noticed that we take nature for granted. We think that the forest and trees will always be there but as I see how we keep making cites bigger were just cutting down a lot of trees that give us oxygen. I feel that we should take care of nature and not destroys it. We should cherished nature because that’s what god created for us and gave to us.

  12. I never really thought about nature until I actually went put on the trail and experienced it. It is a really beautiful world out there when it is taken care of properly. It should be taken care of a lot better than it is now. The little things we do can really help with the environment.

  13. Nature is an aspect of life that is cherished and is at the disposal of human beings. I believe we should adopt the ideals of the American Indians. The idea that we take what we need from the earth to help preserve its beauty, and to ensure the survival of everything. Most recently we have been taking nature for granted like its going to be here forever. We can not entirely blame the greedy capitalist that exploit the environment because they want to make money at any cost. As inhabitants of the earth we owe it to ourselves and to the future generation, to save where we live before it is to late.

  14. In a scientific point of view, I believe that nature should be cherished since nature is something that is supposed to be here for thousands of years. In a business owner point of view, nature should be open to use to make money since money gets harder and harder to get over time. In a religious point of view, I believe that nature should not be damaged since God created it. In closing, no matter how one uses nature, they should use it carefully so it does not get ruined.

  15. I believe that everything on Earth should be cherished. For instance, in my religious belief, God is the creator of all life forms and Earth. Since he gave us this world we must learn to take care of it so one day he could return and see earth the way he left it. We must not litter or destroy earth, for there are other creatures on this planet. By destroying earth we are not only killing other species but also ours. Nature should be kept clean so that we can live in a healthy environment.

  16. In my perspective, I think that this Earth should be treated with respect. Most of the time, people do not respect the world. Especially when disasters happen to this world makes it worse. Nature should be seen in a good and healthy way. That way, we wont have to worry about anything happening to this earth because all we can see is the positive things instead of the negative.

  17. In my perspective, I feel that the earth should be cherished and treated with respect. As humans we should have some sort of respect for the environment, in order to have a booming ecosystem. As a Christian, I know that it's not right for me to harm the earth because God created the earth in his own image and it's not right for me or anyone to harm in any way. Also humans should want to live in an healthy environment, rather than an poor one, especially knowing that 85% of humans are outsiders. We should also be aware of the animals who have to live outdoors. We should want them to enjoy nature and grow healthy, rather than dying out because of humans polluting the earth. So as humans we should take care of the earth and make it into a safe living environment.

  18. I personally believe that we as the human race should cherish and protect nature. Yes, we may need to take away certain resources from nature but only as much as we need. we should not exceed those needs because then we would be causing trouble in the environment. More and more wildlife will be losing their home/habitat because of us. If this happens a multitude of things could happen but two bad things that i can think of that can go wrong is; the animals being forced back into an environment where they cant survive, or be forced to take animals out of the wild and put them into zoo's because they have started to thrive in cities or town. so we should take what we need to survive but we shouldnt take more than we need because we need to be considerate of the wildlife that very much benifits the human race in many ways.

  19. In my opinion, I believe that nature should be cherished because nature is what gives this planet meaning. I believe that without nature, there would be nothing new to discover about nature and enviromental changes and the methods creatures use for survival and no possible way that creature could adapt to certain environments and change if all the environments that creatures had were ran by humans. After watching many documentaries, I've learned that nature all play part in a special way to keep the Earth in order. Without nature, then their would be numerous problems such as over population, not just humans but also rodents because many rodents live outside of nature. Ecosystems and cycles would be disrupted, (no trees, less oxygen). Another thing that is bothersome is the fact that there would be no real natural viewing sites or trails. Life would just not be the same and if we start to take away nature, then our descendants will begin putting the word extinct in more sentences when referring to creatures that died out because humans wasn't careful about their actions and disrupted living spaces that species learn to adapt to through methods that can't rapidly be changed like what humans can do by simply doing something like just by putting on a coat .
