Life Expectancy

People are living longer.  Is this good or bad for society, or something in between?  Explain your opinion.

  1. In the twenty first century people are now living longer than expected. In a way, a person living longer is a sign that humans are actually living healthy lives. On the other hand, a person living longer than expected is actually bad for society. Since people are beginning to live longer this may affect the population on earth. The reason is because the longer people live, the more they will reproduce to pass on their genes for future generations. If there are more people on earth there won’t be enough food to feed the entire planet. As a result, this will lead people to starve and lead to cannibalism. Therefore, a person living longer is bad for society because it will begin to increase the population on earth and create depletion in food source which will cause cannibalism among human beings.

  2. In todays day and age people are living longer than they ever have. This increase can be looked at as positive and negative it depends on what perspective you look at it from. If your looking at it from a social point of view then it is good because everyone wants their family members to live for a long time. It is also good because it shows how far we have come as a nation and our advancements with medicine. On the other hand it can be bad because as our population grows and there are less deaths we will begin populating areas that are not meant to be populated such as National Parks and/or Forest, which will in turn put animals in a bad predicament. Overall I am in between because this has its advantages and disadvantages.

  3. I think that this might be a in between situation. With people living longer, means that there will be more elder people who can’t work, and this will hurt society because businesses won’t have many workers and the economy will slow down. The positive side of a longer life expectancy is that people will be able to work jobs longer, and this will boost the economy. This situation contradicts itself because with it, it will benefit society in a positive way, but it will hurt society in the long run.

  4. As studies shows people are living longer, than they did in previous centuries. It is good that the human species are living longer; but I think it is bad for the environment. I think that it is good for people be able to live longer lives because they have more time to achieve their goals and reproduce. I think that since people are living longer the environment is beginning to decay. The population is increasing but the chemical on earth are descreasing because people are consuming them for their survival. I have a mix opinion about the idea but as humans we should be able to protect our environment while we here with the help of technology.

  5. People living longer is good and bad for the economy because living long lives mean that people have enough time to reproduce and work helping out the economy. People living longer is bad because when they reproduce, the next generation will be double that amount and food will be scarce in the society causing some people to starve. At the end of the day people living longer is good and bad in it's own way.

  6. I see this situation as positive. First its great that people can live longer this means great grandparents are some what able to meet there great grand children. This gives people opportunity's that i did not have the pleasure of having. However its good for many reasons having senior citizens mean they need to open proper places to nurture them especially if a family member can not for reasons of upholding there own life. This creates more jobs helping the economy. More jobs is good it helps people survive and it shows that the more that the human race evolves (Technology etc.)the more we are able survive in harder conditions and less stable environments. which is good and it fulfills our duty to reproducing and having generations of humans ahead of us.

  7. I believe that it's in between because it’s good that our society is living for longer but is also bad for our society. For example it's good for our society because everyone is living a healthy life, and can work for a longer period of time in their life. It's bad because the older the people get the less working ability will be gone and their lives will be almost coming to an end.

  8. I believe that people living longer is something in between. I feel that in this society there's some positive aspects and some negative. A positive aspect would be that everyone wants to be with their family and the people they love and care for. No one wants to see them go. A negative aspect in this situation would be that the world can get over populated. If not enough people are dying and to many children are being born that can create over population and that can cause havoc on the earth.

  9. I personally believe that it is a fairly in-between thing. After all, who does not like being alive? Although in-between, I believe that it leans a bit more to the "bad" side of the spectrum than the middle (on a scale of 1-10 with one being bad, it'd be a 4). A larger population means less food and resources for the overall planet's population, much like what is going on in China with the "One Child Policy". An increase in a country's population during a period of time, much like what is happening with the "Baby Boomer " generation is most likely to take a toll on any country's economy because of the number of people retiring at one time. There will also be more competition for jobs. On a brighter note, at least there will be more people to solve the world's problems, problems of which I hope include overpopulation, with solutions I hope will be ethical, like genetic engineering of plants (much like what is going on now, so long as the plant is still safe to consume after the process) to produce more food. I'd suggest that people have a maximum of two children and let nature and normal everyday life circumstances have their way, like they naturally would in the first place (hurricanes, tornadoes, etc.) to help keep the world population stable during that time period. Despite all the negative effects of longer living humans, I personally believe it should not be something to worry too much about so long as the right steps are taken early to prevent it from getting too bad.

  10. People living longer in society today, to me im deciding between good and bad for a number of reasons. The bad about people living longer in society are, the popluation will grow sagnificantly and might get bad becuase people abuse the earth and its resources. This might leave us destorying the earth more if we had a greater population. The good thing about people living longer and healthier life is that we are actually taking care of outself to live a good life. This is why I am fifty fifty on this.

  11. I truly believe that people living longer is bad for society, we have learned about how the maximum growth of a population depends on the amount of resources that are available to the population. A population will only sustain itself if there is enough recourse available for everyone, if there is not enough resource more aggressive competition will begin and the population will decrease. As people begin to live longer the human population in the world will begin to increase, society will need more and more resources every year to sustain itself. We have seen a similar problem in China how its population was increasing so much the government had to find a way limit its because the country would not have enough resources to provide for its people. And a resource dos not only mean food, water, and shelter it also means jobs. If you think it’s hard to find a job now jus wait until The United States population gets as high as Chinas.

  12. I believe it depends on how you view this. One way is that it is a good thing because children can be able to see their grandparents. Another reason it shows how people's diet change, and the medicine helped people live longer. This could also help business because there will be more people that would buy their products. The bad side is that if this continues then the food resources will start to decrease due to the amonut of people needing to be fed. The animals that we eat, there population would be extremely low because the humans would be eating at a rate faster than the cows and bulls could reproduce. This would lead to people fighting over the steak, the porkchop, and the chicken. This would cause a top-down control. To be honest I have mixed feelings cause both sides has its advantages but it also have some disadvantages.

  13. In today society people are living longer than they are expected to live. This is because of the community in which they find themselves living in. For instead there are great variation due to medical care, public health and also the base on the diet of each individual. For example mortality rate is very high in countries where there is war, diseases such as AIDS and malaria, rather than well develop country like Japan, USA and England. Therefore a person only live longer when he or she has better health care in the society.

  14. I believe it is a good thing that people are living a longer life because nobody wants to live a short one. This is also a bad thing because the world can become over populated and could limit resources to humans. I believe that people should live long lives because nobody wants to die young. It is your time to die when it's your time and that is uncontrollable. People should continue what they have to do to live long longer lives because it is good news for everyone.

  15. People living longer can be a good thing for society. If people are living longer that means that their knowledge of their past experiences can be passed on and shared. Since there are longer life spans, people can keep jobs longer and keep doing well, helping our society financially. This can be because since people are living longer tere will be an over population of people. This can cause crowded streets and make it more difficult to share resources.

  16. In a moral sense it is a good thing that we are so advanced that people are living longer lives. It is good that people get to have mire time with their loved ones. But in the environmental sense it is not good. I remember that someone said that the environment can't support to much of one species (or something along those lines). But I think that this is true. There are a lot of us (human beings) on earth and there are only so many resources and only so much space. This may sound mean but people have to die for us to survive and live comfortably. It is just the cycle of life.

  17. In my personal opinion I believe the fact that people are living longer is a good thing. As humans we make many mistakes and we creat many problems, but if we were able to live longer it would give us time to fix those problems, enjoy life more, and overall learn new things. If the world changes dramatically in 50 years because of scientific advancements. Then give people 20 mores years of life and one can only imagine what can occur and how far we can get. I believe longer life is a benefit to human life.

  18. In some ways i believe this a good thing because it is never good when people die. Personally I am also happy to hear this because i want to live as long as possible so i can experience all parts of life. I also think though that this is a bad thing for the overall human population because if people are living longer then that means there will be more people on Earth at one period of time so there will be more demand for resources and some resource could possibly run out if we demand them too much in a short period of time. S overall i believe that hearing people are living longer has its negative and positive sides.

  19. I believe this is something in between. To me the fact that as humans we are advancing past our normal living expectancy is a great thing. This can also be a bad thing because the more people there are the more resources are spread thin. This I believe can result in increased amounts of poverty. So in conclusion this can be both a great advancement or a bad thing.

  20. I belive people living longer can be both a advantage and disadvantage depending on the circumstances of that persons enviroment. If you are a person who is living within a very rural area such as a city as New York. If people are living longer and it continues to be populated larger and larger each day the disadvantage can lead to maximum capacity. To which at that point the enviroment will not be able to hold that certain amount of people because it will not have the resources needed to provide for that certain amount of people. The advantage however can lead to people not having to focus their energy on reproducing cause people wil survive lnger and have more time to grow that when they do reproduce it will not have as much of an affect ont he enviroment as if it were to if it was energy being focused on reproducing to survive.

  21. I think longer living is better because there would be less reproduction and it falls under k-selected. On the other hand, r-selected species live shorter and reproduce faster due to not having long gestation and also due to the fact that they’re shorter lived because they want their species to last. If people live longer, they would not reproduce as much as species that do not live long. So if people live longer, they would not reproduce as much therefore not over populating and fighting for the little resources and even end up killing each other. If there’s not an over population, there would be plenty of resources.
